What is Acupuncture?
Traditional Chinese Acupuncture is an ancient, powerful system of healing the body using very fine needles to stimulate healing in the entire body and mind. It has been used in the far East for 3000 + years to heal people. Even up to the pressent day, it is still one of the main systems of healthcare in the Far East and has been popular in the West since the 1970’s.
Acupuncture aims to restore balance and harmony to the body by using the patients own energy and self healing abilities. Acupuncture helps to relieve muscular tension, increases circulation, and enables deep relaxation. By relieving stress, Acupuncture strengthens resistance to disease and promotes wellness.
As part of the Acupuncture treatment, we offer Cupping Therapy. Cupping therapy is an ancient form of alternative medicine in which a therapist puts special cups on your skin for a few minutes to create suction. It helps with pain, inflammation, blood flow, relaxation and well-being, and as a type of deep-tissue massage.
Acupuncture itself is a holistic therapy. Holistic means it treats the “whole person.” Rather than treat one symptom at a time, holistic therapies aim to balance the whole body, mind and emotions. Once the body is balanced, it is easier to fight disease and ill health.

What happens in an Acupuncture treatment?
You can choose to have Traditional Chinese Acupunctue or Needle- Free Laser Acupuncture. (See below)
At the beginning of the session , the practitioner will spend at least half an hour assessing your entire health history and gathering clues as to what may be the cause of your health conditions.
If you are having Traditional Chinese Acupuncture, the practitoner will place extremeley fine needles in specific areas of you body which hold “Acupoints”. Acupoints are tiny ” energy portals” that run up and down the body in lines called Meridians. Meridians are energetic channels which transports energy to every square inch of the body. Acupoints , when stimulated, trigger a powerful healing response to unblock stuck energy and balance health. There are more than 400 Acupoints on the human body and all have a specific purpose to heal.
Will it hurt?
Acupuncture needles are extremely small, fine needles and sterile. Most people do not feel them and they do not cause pain when inserted by a skilled acupuncturist. The needles are relatively painless, and once placed cause a feeling of deep relaxation and peace.
Needle – Free Laser Acupuncture
If you would like to try Acupuncture but have a fear of needles, we offer a needle free, non invasive option in the form of Laser Acupuncture.
Laser Acupuncture is a therapy in its own right and works in the same way as Traditional Chinese Acupuncture which is to relax the mind and stimulate the bodies healing abilities. Instead of needles, we use a high intesity light pen or probe to stimulate the Acupoints. As with Traditional Acupuncture , you will need a full investigative consultation to determine the best acupoints to use for your condition.
Children, thin and elderly patients and needle phobic patients enjoy the benefits of Laser Acupuncture , which are the same as traditional acupuncture. It is merely preference.
